Diamondbacks 3, Angels 2

PHOENIX -- Arizona first baseman Paul Goldschmidt had two hits including his 19th home run and right-hander Chase Anderson won his third straight decision in the Diamondbacks' 3-2 victory over the Los Angeles Angels on Wednesday at Chase Field.

Goldschmidt homered in the first inning and Anderson (3-1) did not allow a hit until the fifth while giving up two runs. He has given up more than two earned runs in only three of his 13 starts this season, although he has only four decisions.

Catcher Welington Castillo had two hits and a homer and right fielder Yasmany Tomas had three hits including his first triple and an RBI as the Diamondbacks (32-33) won for the fifth time in six games.

Right fielder Kole Calhoun and left fielder Matt Joyce had two hits apiece for the Angels (33-33), who lost three of four and nine of 14.

The Angels, who had 11 hits, scored on a groundout by first baseman Albert Pujols and on a double play. They left runners on second and third with no outs in the seventh and a runner on third with two outs in the eighth.

Right-hander Brad Ziegler recorded his ninth save.

Left-hander Hector Santiago (4-4) gave up three runs and struck out nine in five-plus innings.

Goldschmidt hit his homer with two outs in the first inning off Santiago for a 1-0 lead.

Left fielder David Peralta singled and scored on Tomas' first career triple to give the Diamondbacks a 2-0 lead in the third.

Castillo led off the fourth with his fourth homer of the season and his second since joining Arizona on June 4 to make it 3-0.

The Angels scored in the fifth when left fielder Matt Joyce beat out an infield single and took third on second baseman Joey Giavotella's single before catcher Chris Ianetta grounded into a double play.

Calhoun singled to open the sixth and took third on center fielder Mike Trout's double before Pujols grounded out to drive in Calhoun and make it 3-2.
