Phillies 3, Blue Jays 2

TORONTO -- Shortstop Andres Blanco drove in the go-ahead run in the fifth inning and left-hander Adam Morgan pitched six innings as the Philadelphia Phillies defeated the Toronto Blue Jays 3-2 on Tuesday.

It was the fifth win in a row for the Phillies (38-63) and the second loss in a row for the Blue Jays (50-51), who got a home run from second baseman Devon Travis before Travis left the game in the third inning with a shoulder injury.

Morgan (2-2) allowed five hits, two walks and two runs while striking out two.

Right-hander Ken Giles entered in the ninth for Philadelphia because right-hander Jonathan Papelbon had been traded to the Washington Nationals earlier in the evening.

Fifteen Blue Jays had been retired in succession before first baseman Edwin Encarnacion led off the ninth with a single. Right-handed pitcher Drew Hutchison ran for him.

Giles retired the next three batters to earn his first save.

Blue Jays left-hander Felix Doubront (1-1) allowed six hits, two walks and three runs in four-plus innings. He struck out three.

The Phillies have won nine of their 10 games since the All-Star break, their best start after the break since going 9-1 in 1970.

Right-hander LaTroy Hawkins made his Blue Jays debut with a 1-2-3 sixth. He was obtained with shortstop Troy Tulowitzki in a trade with the Colorado Rockies.

Blue Jays right fielder Jose Bautista left the game after grounding out to end the eighth inning when he appeared to injure himself on the swing. He grabbed the back of his leg as he tried to run to first.

With Travis already out, it meant catcher Russ Martin moved to second base for the ninth. Infielder/outfielder Danny Valencia, who came in from left field to play second earlier, returned to left with Ezequiel Carrera moving from left to right.

Travis led off the bottom of the first with his eighth home run of the season. It was his second leadoff homer of the season. He batted first in the order after the trade that sent shortstop Jose Reyes to the Colorado Rockies earlier in the day.

The Blue Jays took a 2-0 lead in the second when shortstop Ryan Goins hit a sacrifice fly to left. Martin had singled with one out and Danny Valencia singled when left fielder Cody Asche lost his fly ball in the sky. Center fielder Kevin Pillar walked to load the bases for Goins.

Doubront failed to get an out in the fifth as the Phillies took a 3-2 lead.

Designated hitter Ryan Howard led off with an infield single toward third base with the infield shifted to the right. First baseman Darin Ruf doubled him to third and Asche followed with a two-run double over the head of right fielder Jose Bautista. Blanco doubled in the go-ahead run before right-hander Ryan Tepera replaced Doubront.
