Marlins 4, Mets 3
NEW YORK -- First baseman Justin Bour hit a three-run homer in the fourth inning Friday night and right-hander Dan Haren threw seven solid innings as the Miami Marlins beat the New York Mets 4-3 at Citi Field.
The Marlins (19-30) snapped a three-game losing streak and improved to 3-8 since general manager Dan Jennings took over as manager. The Mets (27-22) had their three-game winning streak ended.
The Marlins bunched their rallies against Mets right-handers Matt Harvey and Carlos Torres, who combined to allow just seven runners. But six reached base against Harvey in the fourth and fifth, when Miami scored its lone runs.
Haren's stuff paled in comparison to Harvey, who was pumping 98 mph fastballs as well as sliders and changeups that were clocked at 90 mph. But the 34-year-old Haren (5-2) impeccably spotted his mid-80s fastball and kept the Mets off-balance in allowing the two runs on four hits and one walk while striking out four.
Haren also singled off Harvey in the seventh to account for Miami's lone runner outside the fourth and fifth innings.
First baseman Lucas Duda and right fielder Curtis Granderson homered off Haren, who allowed only one other runner to get into scoring position.
Right-hander Sam Dyson threw a perfect eighth and right-hander A.J. Ramos earned his third save despite allowing a run in the ninth, when third baseman Ruben Tejada singled and scored on a double by second baseman Daniel Murphy.
Harvey (5-3) allowed the four runs on six hits and one walk while tying a season high with 11 strikeouts.
Harvey opened with three perfect innings in which he struck out six. But second baseman Dee Gordon ended the building buzz in the fourth with a bunt single to third base, where Tejada was making just his third career start.
Gordon stole second and Prado walked. One out later, Bour homered just inside the right field foul pole.
Duda homered leading off the fourth, but the Marlins got the run back in the top of the fifth when shortstop Adeiny Hechavarria singled, went to second on Haren's bunt and scored on a two-out single by Prado.
