Davis' walk-off grand slam lifts A's past Rangers

OAKLAND, Calif. -- Khris Davis hit a career-high three home runs, including a walk-off grand slam with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning, leading the Oakland A's to an 8-5 victory against the Texas Rangers at the Oakland Coliseum on Tuesday night.

Davis had two solo home runs to go with his grand slam, which came off closer Shawn Tolleson, and drove in a career-high six runs.

The walk-off grand slam was the seventh in Oakland history.

Ian Desmond had put the Rangers ahead 5-4 with a two-run homer with two outs in the top of the ninth inning. Rougned Odor lined a two-out single off A's closer Ryan Madson, and Desmond launched his 1-0 changeup into the left-field seats for his sixth home run of the season.

Nomar Mazara followed with an infield single and continued to second on third baseman Danny Valencia's throwing error. Adrian Beltre lined a single to center, but Mazara was thrown out at home on a relay from Billy Burns to first baseman Yonder Alonso to catcher Matt McBride.

Pinch hitter Stephen Vogt led off the bottom of the ninth with an infield single off Tolleson and moved to third on Coco Crisp's double down the right-field line. Tolleson retired Burns on a pop up then walked Josh Reddick intentionally, loading the bases and bringing Danny Valencia to the plate.

Tolleson got Valencia on a fly ball to shallow right field, but Davis crushed his 2-2 pitch into the left-field seats.

Mazara and Beltre hit solo home runs for the Rangers.

Rangers left-hander Cole Hamels gave up four runs (three earned) on nine hits, including three home runs, and got a no-decision as his career-high 11-game winning streak survived. He struck out six and walked two over 6 2/3 innings.

Valencia hit a solo homer and drove in a go-ahead run with an RBI single in the seventh, giving Oakland a 4-3 lead.

A's right-hander Jesse Hahn, who was recalled Tuesday from Triple-A Nashville, allowed three runs on 10 hits over 6 2/3 innings and got a no-decision.

The Rangers took a 3-2 lead into the sixth inning, but the A's pulled even on Davis' second solo home run of the game. He drilled Hamels' 1-0 changeup over the left-center-field fence with one out for his 10th home run of the season, tying shortstop Marcus Semien for the team lead.

The A's moved ahead 4-3 with an unearned run in the seventh. Leading off, catcher Matt McBride started the rally when he struck out but reached base safely on a passed ball charged to Bobby Wilson.

Crisp's sacrifice bunt attempt was too hard, and Hamels threw to second for the force out. But Reddick singled with two outs, and Valencia lined an RBI single to right, driving in Crisp.

After Hahn exited, left-hander Sean Doolittle pitched 1 1/3 scoreless innings, striking out two and allowing one hit.

The A's took a 2-0 lead in the second inning when Valencia and Davis hit back-to-back home runs off Hamels.

Valencia launched Hamels' 3-0 fastball into the left-field seats for a solo shot leading off the second. The home run was Valencia's sixth of the season, all coming in the past five games.

Davis then snapped an 0-for-14 skid, sending Hamels' first-pitch curve into the left-field seats.

The Rangers answered with three runs in the fourth inning when Mazara and Beltre hit back-to-back solo home runs.

Mazara led off with his fifth homer of the season. He launched Hahn's 2-0 fastball over the center-field fence. Beltre followed with his seventh home run, sending Hahn's 0-2 curve over the left-center wall.

Prince Fielder kept the rally going with a single to center. He moved to third when Mitch Moreland singled and A's center fielder Billy Burns booted the ball. Ryan Rua grounded into a double play, and Fielder scored the go-ahead run.
