Solarte's career night leads Padres past D-backs
PHOENIX -- Yangervis Solarte had three hits and a career-high five RBIs, and rookie Ryan Schimpf homered twice as the San Diego Padres moved into a virtual tie with the Arizona Diamondbacks for fourth place in the National League West in a 13-6 victory on Wednesday at Chase Field.
Solarte singled in a run in a five-run fourth inning, doubled in a run in the fifth and hit a three-run homer in the ninth.
Schimpf hit a two-run homer to cap the fourth-inning rally and hit a bases-empty homer in the ninth for the Padres (37-48).
Schimpf, who had 15 homers in 51 games for Triple-A El Paso this season, has four homers since being recalled June 14.
All have come in July. Solarte has nine homers this season, four at Chase Field.
Jake Lamb hit a two-run homer in the ninth inning, Brandon Drury had two hits including his ninth homer and Paul Goldschmidt had two doubles for the Diamondbacks (38-49), who have won three of their 15 home series, split one and are 15-32 at home.
Jose Dominguez (1-0) got four outs in relief of starter Colin Rea for the victory. He struck out Rickie Weeks Jr. on a 99 mph fastball with the bases loaded to end the fifth inning in a 6-4 game.
Matt Kemp had three hits and three RBIs and Will Myers had three hits and an RBI for the Padres.
Shelby Miller (2-9) gave six runs in five innings to fall to 0-7 at home and has a 7.14 ERA in 14 starts.
Chris Herrmann singled home Goldschmidt, who reached on a two-out double, for a 1-0 lead in the first inning.
The Diamondbacks added three more runs with two outs in the third on a single by Yasmany Tomas and Drury's two-run home run.

Miller, who faced just 10 hitters through the first three innings, gave up hits to five of the first six batters in the fourth as the Padres took a 5-4 lead.
