Parra, Anderson lead Rockies past Brewers

MILWAUKEE -- Gerardo Parra had three hits, including a three-run double, and Tyler Anderson struck out eight as the Colorado Rockies beat the Milwaukee Brewers 6-5 on Tuesday night at Miller Park.

Anderson (1-0) scattered five runs on eight hits and a walk over 5 2/3 innings before the Rockies' bullpen put up 3 1/3 scoreless frames.

Colorado's offense did its part, too, combining for 12 hits off four Milwaukee pitchers.

Brewers starter Zach Davies struggled with his command, especially on his changeup, and gave up six runs on nine hits and three walks with one strikeout in 4 1/3 innings.

Colorado scored four runs off Davies (0-1) in the third.

Charlie Blackmon and DJ LeMahieu opened the inning with singles, and after Carlos Gonzalez popped out to third, Nolan Arenado put the Rockies on the board with an RBI double.

Trevor Story followed with a walk and Parra cleared the bases with a double off the wall in center but was thrown out trying to stretch for a triple.

A single by Mark Reynolds kept the inning going but Davies escaped without further damage.

Milwaukee chipped away in the bottom of the fourth on Ryan Braun's first home run of the year and an RBI double from Travis Shaw, making it a 4-3 game.

Davies gave way after putting two on with one out in the fifth, and Reynolds restored the two-run cushion with a single down the left field line off Jhan Marinez. Marinez also gave up an RBI single to Blackmon but got out of the inning when Parra was thrown out trying to score from second.

The Brewers added a pair in the bottom of the sixth as Ryan Braun and Domingo Santana reached on one out base hits. Shaw drove in Braun on a bouncer to first and Manny Pina made it a 6-5 game with an RBI single.

Carlos Estevez ended the threat and after Mike Dunn stuck out the side in the eighth, Greg Holland earned his second save of the year with a perfect ninth.

NOTES: Milwaukee recalled LHP Brent Suter from Triple-A Colorado Springs to replace RHP Junior Guerra, who was officially placed on the 10-day disabled list with a strained right calf and is expected to miss at least six weeks. ... Suter pitched two scoreless innings Tuesday. ... The Rockies' bullpen has not allowed a run in 8 1/3 innings this season. ... Brewers OF Ryan Braun hit his first home run of the season Tuesday, a solo shot in the fourth off Rockies LHP Tyler Anderson. Braun has 286 career homers.
