Perez, Davies carry Brewers to rout of Reds
MILWAUKEE -- Two triples and a home run from Hernan Perez backed up five shutout innings from right-hander Zach Davies as the Brewers beat the Cincinnati Reds 9-1 Tuesday night at Miller Park.
Davies (2-2) struck out six while allowing six hits and a walk to earn his second consecutive victory.
Keon Broxton doubled and drew a pair of walks, and Eric Thames hit his major-league-leading 11th home run of the season as the Milwaukee offense combined for 10 hits.
Thames went deep against the Reds for the eighth time this season, joining Hall of Famer Willie Stargell as the only players to hit eight April homers against a single team. Stargell did it for the Pittsburgh Pirates in 1971 vs. the Atlanta Braves.
Reds starter Scott Feldman (1-2) went five innings, allowing four runs on five hits and five walks with four strikeouts.
Feldman retired his first five batters in order but Manny Pina drew a two-out walk in the second to bring up Perez, who tripled to right and gave Milwaukee a 1-0 lead.
He struck again in the third, this time to center. Feldman intentionally walked Keon Broxton to face Davies, but he, too, walked and Jonathan Villar made him pay with a two-run single up the middle giving Milwaukee a 4-0 lead.
Robert Stephenson came on to work the sixth and didn't fare much better against Perez, who ripped his second offering off the batter's eye in center for his third home run of the season. Broxton crushed the very next pitch off the top of the wall in center for a ground-rule double.
Pinch hitter Nick Franklin followed, again connecting on Stephenson's first pitch, ripping a line drive right at right fielder Scott Schebler, who dropped the ball and put runners at the corners.
Villar cleared the bases with another single, and the Brewers held a 7-0 lead but Thames made it a 9-0 game two pitches later on a two-run shot to right, his league-leading 11th of the season.
Adam Duvall broke the shutout with a solo home run in the eighth off Tommy Milone, who earned his first save of the year with three innings of one-run ball.

Reds RHP Barrett Astin was called up from Triple-A Louisville, adding length and depth to the bullpen. In a corresponding move, Cincinnati optioned RHP Ariel Hernandez to Double-A Pensacola. ... Brewers UT Hernan Perez made a second consecutive start Tuesday as manager Craig Counsell tries to get him more regular playing time. In the first two games of the series, Perez has gone 5-for-7 with a double, two triples, two home runs and seven RBIs.
