Pence sac fly in 10th lifts Giants past Dodgers
SAN FRANCISCO -- Hunter Pence hit a bases-loaded, walk-off sacrifice fly in the 10th inning, lifting the San Francisco Giants to a come-from-behind 4-3 victory against the Los Angeles Dodgers on Wednesday night at AT&T Park.
Pence fell behind 0-2 to Dodgers right-hander Ross Stripling but worked a full count and sent a fly ball to left on the 10th pitch of his at-bat, driving in Gorkys Hernandez from third.
Hernandez led off the 10th inning with a sharp single to right and stole second base. Conor Gillaspie walked, and the Giants loaded the bases when first baseman Adrian Gonzalez fielded Nick Hundley's bunt and tried to get the force at third but was late with his throw.
Giants rookie Christian Arroyo hit his first major league home run, a two-run shot in the seventh inning off ex-San Francisco reliever Sergio Romo. Arroyo played his third big league game since being called up from Triple-A Sacramento.
Michael Morse, who was called up Wednesday from Sacramento, had a pinch-hit solo home run in the eighth inning for San Francisco, tying the game 3-3.
Dodgers left-hander Alex Wood allowed one hit over six shutout innings and opened the game with five straight no-hit frames. He struck out five and walked one but got a no-decision.
Corey Seager hit a solo home run in the sixth inning, igniting a three-run rally for the Dodgers.
Giants left-hander Johnny Cueto allowed three runs on seven hits over six innings. He struck out five and walked two.
Derek Law (2-0) pitched a scoreless 10th for the win. Stripling (0-2) took the loss.
Wood didn't allow a hit until Drew Stubbs grounded a sharp single to left leading off the bottom of the sixth inning. Through the first five innings, the Giants hit one ball out of the infield as Stubbs struck out five and walked one and retired eight Giants on ground balls.
Seager led off with a home run in the sixth, his fourth blast of the season. He sent Cueto's 3-2 fastball over the center-field fence an estimated 462 feet.
Justin Turner lined a single to center and went to third with one out when Yasmani Grandal doubled to right. After Yasiel Puig walked, loading the bases, Chase Utley brought Turner home with a soft single to left, making it 2-0. Grandal scored when Andrew Toles grounded into a forceout.
San Francisco cut the Dodgers' lead to 3-2 in the seventh when Buster Posey lined a one-out single off Romo and Arroyo followed with a two-run blast to left center, hitting Romo's 2-0 slider.
Morse fell behind 1-2 then lined Pedro Baez's 97 mph fastball over the left-center field fence with one out in the eighth as the Giants pulled even.
