Reds 12, Brewers 3
Ryan Hanigan homered twice and Brandon Phillips added a three-run blast as the Cincinnati Reds crushed the visiting Milwaukee Brewers, 12-3, on Sunday to complete a three-game sweep of the season-opening series.
Jonny Gomes hit a solo home run and Drew Stubbs drove in a run and scored one for the Reds.
It was knotted at 2-2 when Cincinnati broke it open in the fourth, pushing four runs across on Stubbs’ RBI single and Phillips’ first home run of the season. The Reds would add another run in the fifth on a solo blast by Hanigan and really broke it open in the sixth with four more.
Scott Rolen started the rally with a sacrifice fly and Hanigan put it out of reach with his three-run shot.
Bronson Arroyo (1-0) turned in a good effort for Cincinnati, allowing three runs and six hits while striking out five in seven frames to pick up the win. The veteran right-hander did not walk a batter and threw 65 of 87 pitches for strikes.
Randy Wolf (0-1) absorbed the loss for the Brewers, yielding six runs and 10 hits in four innings.
