Tigers at Yankees

Miguel Cabrera will look to cap off a solid weekend as the Detroit Tigers vie for the series victory over the host New York Yankees on Sunday. After recording his 1,000th career RBI in Friday's 7-6 loss, Cabrera homered and drove in three runs as Detroit snapped a five-game skid with a 7-5 triumph Saturday.

Cabrera has fared well versus Sunday starter CC Sabathia, going 9-for-16 with two homers and 11 RBIs in his career. Another strong effort by Cabrera could net Jim Leyland his 1,600th victory as a manager.

PITCHING MATCHUP: Tigers RH Max Scherzer (1-2, 8.24 ERA) vs. Yankees LH CC Sabathia (2-0, 5.27 ERA)

Scherzer has won all three of his career decisions versus the Yankees - registering a 1.11 WHIP while relegating New York to a .211 batting average. While those numbers are impressive, the 27-year-old's last trip to the mound wasn't as spiffy. Scherzer allowed five runs on a season-high 10 hits versus Seattle on Tuesday.

Sabathia collected his second straight victory after keeping high-octane Texas under control Monday. The hefty lefty yielded four runs, but tied a season high with eight strikeouts in as many innings. Sabathia boasts a 15-12 career record versus Detroit.

WALK-OFFS

1. Andy Dirks had quite the game while replacing Delmon Young, who was placed on the restricted list on Saturday. Dirks belted a three-run homer and recorded a pair of solid defensive plays in left field.

2. Curtis Granderson homered Saturday, but his fortune against Scherzer has not been as grand. He is 3-for-11 versus the hurler while Derek Jeter is 2-for-9.

3. Young will undergo alcohol and anger management evaluation Monday, Tigers general manager Dave Dombrowski said. Young will miss an indefinite period of time after he was arrested on a hate crime harassment charge Friday. According to police, Young engaged in a fight with a group of men outside the team's hotel and yelled anti-Semitic epithets.
