The San Diego Padres look to conclude their homestand on a winning note when they meet the Philadelphia Phillies in the rubber match of their three-game series. San Diego staged a late comeback in the series opener and won in extra innings but was unable to duplicate the feat Tuesday, dropping a 6-2 decision. The Padres put two runners on base with one out in the ninth before Antonio Bastardo struck out Chris Denorfia and Logan Forsythe to nail down Philadelphia's second win in six games.
Pedro Ciriaco collected three hits and an RBI for San Diego, which fell to 3-3 on its seven-game homestand and has lost five of eight overall following a seven-game win streak. The Phillies, who are 25-7 all-time at Petco Park, evened their record at 1-1 on their 10-game road trip. Domonic Brown ended his 14-game homerless drought with a three-run shot and also drew a bases-loaded walk as he matched his career high with four RBIs.
