Diamondbacks at Giants

The San Francisco Giants look to continue their charge toward the top of the National League West when they continue their three-game series against the visiting Arizona Diamondbacks on Wednesday. San Francisco climbed within 2 1/2 games of the first-place Los Angeles Dodgers with a 5-1 triumph in Tuesday's opener as Yusmeiro Petit yielded only four hits en route to his second career complete game - both of which have come against Arizona. The Giants, who sit atop the NL wild-card standings, registered 12 hits - all singles - in the victory.

Angel Pagan and Joe Panik combined for nine of San Francisco's dozen hits, with the latter posting his first career five-hit performance. Arizona suffered its fourth consecutive loss and fell to 2-6 on its 10-game road trip. Ender Inciarte launched his fourth homer for the Diamondbacks, who have scored a total of six runs during their losing streak.

PITCHING MATCHUP: Diamondbacks RH Josh Collmenter (10-7, 3.81 ERA) vs. Giants RH Ryan Vogelsong (8-10, 4.06)

Collmenter has been superb over his last three starts, going 2-0 while allowing a total of three runs - two earned - and 11 hits in 21 2/3 innings. The 28-year-old registered both of the victories against San Diego and is one win away from setting a new career high. Collmenter improved to 5-1 lifetime against San Francisco on June 20, when he limited the Giants to one run despite yielding four hits and four walks in five frames.

Vogelsong was battered for a career-high eight runs on 10 hits and two walks over five innings in a loss at Colorado last Wednesday. The 37-year-old, who also served up a career-worst four homers in that contest, has won only one of his last five outings despite yielding more than three runs just once in that span. Vogelsong fell to 3-5 against Arizona in his career on July 12, suffering a hard-luck loss after allowing two runs in 6 1/3 frames.

WALK-OFFS

1. The Giants have won a season-high seven straight home games.

2. Inciarte's homer was the 101st belted into McCovey Cove in the history of AT&T Park and Arizona's first in its last eight contests.

3. Diamondbacks 2B Aaron Hill is 13-for-25 (.520) lifetime against Vogelsong.
