Orioles 14, Indians 8
The Baltimore Orioles hammered four home runs and pounded their way to a 14-8 win over the Cleveland Indians on Tuesday night.
Baltimore moved to 7-1 under Buck Showalter, who was hired as manager on Aug. 3.
Felix Pie's three-run homer to dead center in the fifth inning gave Baltimore the lead for good, wiping out a 6-4 deficit. Luke Scott hit a three-run homer off Hector Ambriz while Matt Wieters hit a two-run homer off Frank Herrmann in the eighth and Corey Patterson added a solo homer in the sixth.
Scott drove in four runs while Pie and Wieters had three apiece.
Indians starter Justin Masterson (4-11) allowed seven runs and six hits in five innings. A fielding error by third baseman Luis Valbuena in the fourth made three of the runs unearned.
Cleveland took a 1-0 lead into the fourth before Baltimore scored four times. The Indians responded with five runs off Jake Arrieta (4-3), who allowed six runs in six innings.
Masterson couldn't hold the lead as Pie hammered a 1-0 pitch to the deepest part of Progressive Field.
Baltimore added six in the eighth and hit for the cycle in a span of four batters with Pie's single, Wieters' home run, Patterson's triple and Cesar Iztruris' single.
Michael Brantley hit a two-run homer in the ninth for the Indians.
