Brad Bergesen tossed a two-hit shutout and Brian Roberts belted a home run as the Baltimore Orioles secured a 3-1 victory over the Cleveland Indians on Wednesday night.
Luke Scott and Cesar Izturis each drove in a run for Baltimore, which won its fourth in a row and improved to 8-1 under new manager Buck Showalter.
Bergesen (4-9) allowed a lone run and struck out four batters on 102 pitches to win for the first time in almost three months. He had gone 0-7 with a 6.65 ERA since his last triumph on May 12.
Scott’s groundout in the first, Izturis’ single in the fourth and Roberts’ second shot of the season in the fifth gave the Orioles a 3-0 lead.
Cleveland starter Josh Tomlin (1-2) was tagged with the loss after surrendering three runs - two earned - on 10 hits in five innings.
Luis Valbuena drove in Cleveland’s lone run with a single in the fifth.
