Tigers 8, Indians 1
Rookie Will Rhymes went 4-for-5 with three runs scored and Jhonny Peralta drove in three as the Detroit Tigers finished off a sweep of the Cleveland Indians with an 8-1 victory on Sunday.
Brennan Boesch added two RBIs and Austin Jackson scored a pair of runs for the Tigers, who outscored the Indians 19-3 in the three-game series.
Detroit got its offense going right from the start, pushing across three runs in each of the first two innings to take a commanding lead.
Miguel Cabrera started the onslaught with an RBI single off Jeanmar Gomez (3-2) in the first - his 102nd RBI of the season - and Peralta added a two-run single. Boesch chipped in an RBI double in the second and Peralta added a sacrifice fly.
That would be plenty for Justin Verlander (14-8), who surrendered one run on seven hits while striking out eight in eight innings.
Rhymes was in the middle of it all, scoring in the first and second and driving in a run in the third. The former 27th-round pick has gotten the most out of his playing time of late, going 11-for-21 with seven runs scored and four RBIs in his last five starts.
