Indians 2, Twins 0
Fausto Carmona retired the final 16 hitters he faced and won for the first time since Aug. 2, leading the Cleveland Indians to a 2-0 win over the Minnesota Twins on Friday night.
Carmona (12-14) held the Twins to three hits while striking out seven and walking one.
Matt LaPorta hit a solo home run in the second as the Indians ended the Twins' six-game winning streak. Minnesota led Chicago by six games in the American League Central race going into the game.
Carl Pavano (16-11) held the Indians to two runs in eight innings, but ended up on the losing end.
LaPorta homered on a 1-1 pitch with two outs in the second.
Asdrubal Cabrera's sacrifice fly in the fifth gave the Indians a 2-0 lead. The rally began a single by Jason Donald, who took third on Lou Marson's double. After Michael Brantley lined out to second baseman Orlando Hudson, Cabrera hit a foul fly ball into the corner in left field. Delmon Young made the catch, but Donald scored easily.
The Twins played without designated hitter Jim Thome, who missed his second straight game with a pulled abdominal muscle.
