Yankees 9, Tigers 5

Mark Teixeira finished a triple shy of the cycle and drove in two runs as the New York Yankees rolled to a 9-5 victory over the Detroit Tigers on Wednesday.

Robinson Cano and Curtis Granderson also homered while Austin Kearns added two RBIs for the Yankees, who posted their second straight win over the Tigers after losing four of the first five meetings of the year.

Teixeira got New York on the board in the first inning with a two-run homer, his 27th of the season, and Cano followed with his 23rd for a 3-0 bulge.

Miguel Cabrera hit solo shots in the second and fourth to draw Detroit within a run and overtake Alex Rodriguez for the American League RBI lead with 98. But Ramiro Pena hit an RBI triple and scored on Brett Gardner's double during a three-run bottom of the fourth to give the Yankees a 6-2 lead.

Dustin Moseley (3-2) benefited from the outburst, picking up the win despite allowing four runs and five hits in just five innings.

Jeremy Bonderman (6-9) also lasted five innings for Detroit, surrendering seven runs - six earned - and six hits to lose his third in a row and fall to 3-9 lifetime against New York.

Don Kelly hit a two-run homer for the Tigers, who have lost 15 of their last 19 road games.
