Tigers 9, Royals 1
The Detroit Tigers’ offense continued to roll on Tuesday night, pounding out 16 hits while Rick Porcello threw a two-hit gem to down the Kansas City Royals 9-1.
It was just Porcello’s second win over his last 12 starts as he improved to 6-11 on the year. Porcello went seven innings, striking out four and walking one.
Six Tigers had at least two hits and Brennan Boesch and Will Rhymes each knocked in a pair of runs. Detroit has now scored 40 runs over its last five games.
Kyle Davies (6-8) was hit hard for Kansas City, giving up seven runs on 12 hits over 4 2/3 innings.
Ryan Raburn homered in the bottom of the fifth and Austin Jackson followed that up with an RBI double. Will Rhymes then added a two-run double to close out a four-run inning for the Tigers.
The win pulled Detroit back to .500 at 53-53 on the season while Kansas City fell to 53-73.
Johnny Damon announced before the game that he decided to stay with the Tigers instead of accepting a trade to his former club, the Boston Red Sox.
