Will Rhymes delivered a go-ahead, two-run triple in the 11th inning, lifting the visiting Detroit Tigers to a 9-5 victory over the Kansas City Royals on Friday night.
Ryan Raburn homered and drove in two runs for Detroit, which rallied from an early 4-0 deficit against reigning American League Cy Young Award winner Zack Greinke.
Jesse Chavez (2-3) took the loss, giving up four runs on three hits in the 11th.
Ryan Perry (3-5) worked the final two innings in relief for Detroit.
Brandon Inge had a two-run single and Alex Avila had an RBI base hit to knock Greinke out of the game in a four-run seventh.
After Raburn hit a solo homer in the top of the eighth, Alex Gordon answered with a solo homer in the bottom of the eighth for the Royals to send the game into extra innings.
Greinke was charged with four runs on six hits in 6 1/3 innings.
Kansas City jumped on Tigers starter Jeremy Bonderman for four runs in the second. Brayan Pena had an RBI double, Yuniesky Betancourt added a two-run single and Gregor Blanco tripled in a run.
Bonderman left after 7 1/3 innings, allowing four runs and seven hits.
