Dallas Braden threw seven solid innings and the Oakland Athletics scored three runs in the seventh inning to snap a tie en route to a 6-2 victory over the Toronto Blue Jays Tuesday night.
Oakland’s Coco Crisp was 3-for-4 with an RBI single in the eighth and two runs scored.
Braden (8-8) allowed two runs – one earned – on three hits. He had five strikeouts and two walks. Michael Wuertz pitched the final 1 1/3 innings for his sixth save.
Toronto starter Brandon Morrow, coming off a 17-strikeout one-hitter, lasted just four innings. He allowed two runs on four hits and walked three. Brian Tallet (2-5) took the loss.
Jose Bautista’s RBI groundout in the first opened the scoring. Daric Barton replied with an RBI double in the bottom half of the frame and scored on a wild pitch later that inning to give Oakland a 2-1 lead.
Toronto tied the score at 2-2 in the top of the seventh when Lyle Overbay doubled in Aaron Hill.
The Athletics scored three runs in the bottom of the frame on Jack Cust’s ground out and two-out singles by Mark Ellis and Rajai Davis for a 5-2 lead.
