A's 5, Blue Jays 4

Cliff Pennington singled in the winning run with no outs in the bottom of the ninth inning after Oakland had allowed three runs in the top of the frame to earn a 5-4 victory over the Toronto Blue Jays on Wednesday afternoon.

Pennington’s single off Casey Janssen (4-1) scored Steve Tolleson, who had singled and moved to second on a passed ball.

Fred Lewis drove in three runs for Toronto, including a pair in the top of the ninth to momentarily even things up.

Michael Wuertz loaded the bases in the ninth before allowing a one-out RBI single by J.P. Arencibia. Jerry Blevins replaced Wuertz, but Lewis promptly drove in two runs with a single to center.

Brad Ziegler (3-4) got Oakland out of the jam when Yunel Escobar grounded into a double play to end the threat.

Coco Crisp homered, hit two doubles and drove in two runs for the A's. He hit an RBI double in the second and added his fifth homer of the year in the seventh.

Oakland scored two runs in the first on RBI ground outs by Kurt Suzuki and Kevin Kouzmanoff.

Oakland starter Gio Gonzalez allowed one run on two hits with six strikeouts and four walks and left with a 4-1 lead before the bullpen wasted it.
