Cubs 4, Giants 5

Pat Burrell snapped an eighth inning tie with a solo homer as the San Francisco Giants edged the Chicago Cubs, 5-4, on Wednesday.

Aaron Rowand added a solo shot and Buster Posey drove in a run for the Giants, who have taken two of three so far from the Cubs. The four-game set wraps up on Thursday before San Francisco welcomes the San Diego Padres for an NL West showdown over the weekend.

The Giants grabbed a 4-3 lead on Rowand’s blast in the sixth but Chicago battled back to tie it when Tyler Colvin reached Sergio Romo (5-3) for a solo blast of his own in the seventh.

After Justin Berg (0-1) worked out of a jam in the seventh, the Cubs left him in for the eighth and Burrell wasted little time making them regret the decision. Leading off the frame, Burrell drove a 1-2 pitch over the left field wall for his eighth homer of the season.

Brian Wilson came on in the ninth to close it out, recording his 33rd save.

San Francisco led, 3-0, after the first inning thanks to an RBI groundout from Posey and a two-run single from Burrell.
