Padres 5, Cubs 3

Mat Latos went seven strong innings and San Diego’s offense came to life in the seventh to help the Padres secure a 5-3 win and four-game series sweep over the Chicago Cubs on Thursday.

The Padres came back from a 2-1 deficit to light up the Chicago bullpen for four runs in the seventh inning after starter Carlos Zambrano was pulled following six steady innings.

Ryan Ludwick singled off Sean Marshall to bring in Miguel Tejada and tie things at 2 before Will Venable singled to center to score Adrian Gonzalez and Ludwick.

Latos allowed two runs on five hits with 10 strikeouts in improving to 13-5 on the year.

Heath Bell gave up a run on an RBI single by Blake DeWitt in the ninth, but struck out Koyie Hill to pick up his 37th save of the year.

Sean Marshall (6-4) took the loss for the Cubs, who got RBI doubles from Marlon Byrd and Aramis Ramirez.
