Marlins 6, Pirates 0
Ricky Nolasco did his best with both his bat and arm to make certain that the Florida Marlins snapped their four-game losing streak.
Nolasco had a pair of run-scoring base hits and tossed six scoreless innings as the Marlins cruised to a 6-0 triumph over the Pittsburgh Pirates on Tuesday.
Rookie Gaby Sanchez recorded a two-run single, Logan Morrison added an RBI double and Hanley Ramirez and Wes Helms scored twice for Florida (58-60).
The offense proved to be enough for Nolasco (14-8), who recorded his ninth win in his last 11 starts. The 27-year-old California native allowed five hits and struck out nine in this one.
Jose Veras did not surrender a hit in two scoreless innings and Clay Hensley recorded the final three outs in the ninth to preserve the win.
Rookie Jose Tabata had a pair of hits for Pittsburgh (40-79), which fell to 4-12 in the month of August.
Zack Duke (5-12) permitted five runs and nine hits in 5 2/3 innings to suffer his third consecutive loss.
