Marlins 4, Pirates 2
Rookie Gaby Sanchez belted a three-run homer and fellow first-year player Alex Sanabia tossed seven-plus strong innings as the Florida Marlins posted a 4-2 triumph over the Pittsburgh Pirates on Thursday.
One day after signing a one-year extension, Wes Helms added an RBI single for Florida (60-60), which capped its 10-game road trip by winning three in a row.
Sanabia (2-1) was recalled from Triple-A New Orleans on Wednesday to replace left-hander Sean West, who was plagued by right knee inflammation.
The right-handed Sanabia didn't disappoint in this outing as he allowed one run and four hits in 7 2/3 innings to pick up the win.
Leo Nunez allowed a solo homer to Andrew McCutchen before retiring the side in the ninth for his 28th save of the season.
Rookie Argenis Diaz added an RBI double in the eighth inning for Pittsburgh (40-81), which fell to 1-10 in its last 11 games.
Pat Maholm (7-12) permitted four runs and eight hits in 5 2/3 innings to take the loss.
