Rays 6, Orioles 2

Brandon Guyer homered in his first major league at-bat and James Shields was superb over 7 1/3 innings as the Tampa Bay Rays kicked off their six-game road trip Friday with a 6-2 triumph over the Baltimore Orioles.

Johnny Damon also hit a two-run homer for the Rays, who have won nine of their last 12 games.

Shields (3-1) limited the Orioles to one and three hits in his fifth consecutive start of at least seven innings. The righthander walked three and struck out five.

Shields received all the offensive support he needed in the second. Evan Longoria and Upton began with doubles before Guyer deposited a 3-1 offering from Zach Britton over the left-center field wall for a 3-0 lead.

Casey Kotchman hit an RBI single in the eighth and Damon capped the scoring with a two-run homer in the ninth.

Britton (5-2) had his three-game winning streak snapped - he allowed three runs and four hits in 5 1/3 innings. The rookie lefthander, who fell to 3-1 at home, failed to last six innings for the first time in seven starts this season.

Derrek Lee homered for Baltimore, which had won seven of its previous eight meetings with Tampa Bay.
