Rays 6, Orioles 3

B.J. Upton doubled twice and knocked in five runs as the Tampa Bay Rays defeated the visiting Baltimore Orioles 6-3 on Saturday.

Upton, who came into the game 4-for-40 in his last 13 games, doubled home two runs in the first inning to tie the game 2-2 and broke the game open with a three-run double in the fifth.

Winning pitcher Wade Davis (9-8) gave up two runs in the first, but did not allow another hit until the sixth. Baltimore added a run in the sixth on a Matt Wieters’ RBI single, but Davis got Robert Andino to ground into a double play with the bases loaded to end the threat.

Kyle Farnsworth pitched the ninth for his 23rd save in 27 opportunities.

Matt Joyce, who scored two runs, put Tampa Bay ahead for good in the third 3-2 with a two-out RBI double.

Nick Markakis, the second batter of the game, belted a two-run homer for Baltimore. He has three homers and 14 RBIs in 14 games against Tampa Bay in 2011.

Alfredo Simon (4-8) allowed seven hits and six runs in five-plus innings for the Orioles, who clinched their 14th straight losing season.
