Adam Loewen brought home the go-ahead run on a bases-loaded walk as the Toronto Blue Jays concluded a .500 season with a 3-2 win over the host Chicago White Sox on Wednesday afternoon.
Leading 2-1 entering the ninth inning, the White Sox turned to fireballer Chris Sale (2-2) to close things out. Sale promptly loaded the bases with one out before issuing a game-tying free pass to Mark Teahen.
Loewen followed by working a four-pitch walk that gave Toronto the lead for good and spelled the end of Sale's day.
Shawn Camp (6-3) earned the win with an inning of scoreless relief for the Blue Jays, who reached the .500 mark for the 33rd and final time this season. Frank Francisco worked the ninth for his 17th save.
Alexei Ramirez's ground rule double in the fifth inning off Toronto starter Brandon Morrow put the White Sox ahead after Gordon Beckham had drawn Chicago even with a solo homer an inning earlier.
Morrow was charged with two runs - the first he had allowed in three starts - on five hits while walking five and striking out seven. He finishes with a career-best 203 strikeouts on the season, joining Roger Clemens, A.J. Burnett and Roy Halladay as the only Toronto pitchers to surpass 200 in a season.
Chicago counterpart Philip Humber struck out a career-high nine over 6 2/3 sensational innings while limiting the Blue Jays to a pair of hits and four walks. The former first-round pick came into the game having allowed 13 runs over his previous 12 innings.
White Sox designated hitter Adam Dunn was given the day off, finishing the year at .159. He wound up five at-bats shy of officially posting the lowest batting average in major-league history.
