Mariners 8, Blue Jays 7
Luis Rodriguez delivered a two-out, two-run walk-off hit as the Seattle Mariners rallied from seven runs down to earn an 8-7 victory over the visiting Toronto Blue Jays on Monday.
Justin Smoak capped a five-run rally in the eighth inning with a two-run single and Milton Bradley homered for the Mariners, who snapped a seven-game slide.
The Toronto bullpen began to make the game a lot more exciting in the eighth when it allowed three straight runs on bases-loaded walks and a two-run single to Smoak to allow the Mariners to get to within 7-6. Shawn Camp came on as the fourth pitcher in the inning and got Miguel Olivo to ground into a double play to end the rally, but Seattle wasn‘t done.
Michael Saunders led off the ninth with a double off Camp (0-1) and moved up on a sacrifice. Ichiro Suzuki was intentionally walked and stole second in front of Rodriguez, who worked a 10-pitch at-bat before driving a low pitch out of the strike zone to deep right-center.
The wild finish bailed out Felix Hernandez, who had an uncharacteristically poor start. The reigning Cy Young winner was pounded for seven runs and 12 hits in six innings.
Rodriguez came into the game to replace Chone Figgins, who left after three innings with a thumb injury.
