Royals 5, Indians 4

Bruce Chen raised his record to 3-0 with seven strong innings and five Kansas City hitters drove in runs to lead the Royals to a 5-4 victory over the visiting Cleveland Indians on Tuesday.

Joakim Soria pitched the ninth for his fifth save in six opportunities, but it wasn't easy. With Kansas City holding a 5-3 lead, third baseman Wilson Betemit made a throwing error, Michael Brantley singled and Asdrubal Cabrera was hit by a pitch. Shin-Soo Choo walked to force in a run before Carlos Santana struck out on three pitches to end the game and the Indians' four-game winning streak.

Alex Gordon extended his hitting streak to a major-league best 13 games with two hits, including an RBI double in the fifth. Gordon also threw a runner out at the plate from left field in the seventh and robbed Grady Sizemore of a hit in the ninth with a diving catch.

Indians starter Jeanmar Gomez (0-1) made his first start of the season after being called up from Triple A Columbus. He allowed five runs and nine hits in 5 1/3 innings.

Chen held the Indians scoreless until Lou Marson's two-run double in the seventh. Chen, who was 3-0 against Cleveland last season, gave up six hits, struck out five and walked three.

Santana's RBI single in the eighth against Blake Wood cut the lead to 5-3.

Kansas City scored two runs in the third on Chris Getz's RBI triple and Melky Cabrera's RBI groundout.

Alcides Escobar's two-out single gave Kansas City a 3-0 lead in the fourth. Gordon's double and Jeff Francoeur's RBI single made it 5-0 in the fifth.
