Royals 5, Indians 3

Jeff Francoeur and Alex Gordon homered and Danny Duffy tossed five solid innings in a spot start as the Kansas City Royals took two of three against the Cleveland Indians with a 5-3 road triumph on Sunday.

Alcides Escobar had an RBI single and Francoeur and Gordon scored twice as Kansas City secured its eighth win in 12 games.

With scheduled starter Kyle Davies scratched due to right shoulder inflammation, Duffy (3-4) collected his second straight win after allowing two runs on eight hits and striking out six.

Three relievers bridged the gap to Joakim Soria, who rebounded after Friday's loss to retire the side for his 20th save of the season.

Fausto Carmona (5-11) suffered his eighth loss in 10 decisions after permitting four runs on six hits in 7 1/3 innings.

Rookie Jason Kipnis recorded his first career homer and Carlos Santana added an RBI triple for Cleveland, which has dropped eight of its last 10 games.
