Royals 2, Indians 1

Bruce Chen earned his career-high fifth straight victory while maintaining his recent dominance over Cleveland as the Kansas City Royals edged the host Indians 2-1 Sunday.

Chen (10-5) held an undermanned Cleveland lineup to five hits over 7 1/3 innings for his sixth straight victory over the Indians dating back to 2009. The veteran lefthander walked two and struck out four.

Mike Moustakas had the big blow with the go-ahead single in the third off Justin Masterson (10-8). It extended Moustakas' hitting streak to 11 games, during which he's batting a blistering .487 (19-for-39).

Joakim Soria worked the ninth for his 24th save.

The Indians stayed 6 1/2 games back of division-leading Detroit in the American League Central. The Tigers fell, 11-4, to the Minnesota Twins later Sunday.

Masterson was strong in defeat, allowing two runs on nine hits over six frames.

A Carlos Santana bases-loaded walk in the first provided the only offense for the Indians.
