Indians 6, Athletics 2
Carlos Santana and Jack Hannahan hit two-run homers in the sixth inning, leading the Cleveland Indians to a 6-2 win over the visiting Oakland Athletics on Tuesday night.
Third-place Cleveland remained 5 1/2 games behind Detroit in the American League Central. Chicago is second, five games behind.
Cleveland has won four of five while Oakland has lost four straight.
Jeanmar Gomez (1-2) allowed one unearned run - coming on his own fielding error - in six innings. The righthander was called up from Triple-A Columbus before the game.
Trevor Cahill (9-13) was charged with five runs in 5 1/3 innings and is winless since July 27. The righty is 3-13 since winning his first six decisions of the season.
Cleveland led 2-1 before blowing the game open in the sixth. Santana followed Jim Thome's one-out walk with a blast into the seats in right, his second homer of the series. Cahill was pulled after hitting Shelley Duncan with a pitch.
Fautino De Los Santos relieved and allowed Hannahan's homer, which also cleared the fence in right.
