Gio Gonzalez allowed four hits in seven scoreless innings and continued his mastery of the Cleveland Indians, leading the Oakland Athletics to a 7-0 win Thursday.
Gonzalez (12-11) moved to 5-0 with a 0.72 ERA in six career starts against Cleveland and extended his scoreless streak versus the Indians to 27 2/3 innings. The left-hander is also 4-0 with a 0.67 ERA in four starts at Progressive Field.
Cliff Pennington had four hits and drove in three runs as Oakland ended its five-game losing streak.
Cleveland trails first-place Detroit by 5 1/2 games in the American League Central.
The teams played 16 innings Wednesday night in a game that lasted five hours, two minutes and ended at 12:07 a.m. Thursday's game began at 12:06 p.m.
Run-scoring singles by Pennington and Coco Crisp in the fifth off Fausto Carmona (6-13) gave Gonzalez all the offense he needed.
Jemile Weeks and Hideki Matsui hit sacrifice flies in the seventh.
Pennington added a two-run single in the eighth. Crisp followed with his second RBI single of the day.
