Indians 9, Royals 6
Shelley Duncan homered twice and drove in five runs to lead the visiting Cleveland Indians to a 9-6 win over the Kansas City Royals on Sunday.
The win allowed Cleveland to keep pace with Detroit in the American League Central. The Tigers blasted the Chicago White Sox 18-2 Sunday evening to remain 6 1/2 games clear of the Indians.
Jeanmar Gomez (2-2) allowed one run in 5 1/3 innings to win his second straight start.
Duncan belted a three-run homer in the sixth and a two-run homer in the eighth - with both shots coming off Jesse Chavez.
Asdrubal Cabrera hit a two-run double to spark the Indians' three-run second inning.
Eric Hosmer's two-run single and Johnny Giavotella's RBI single in the ninth cut the deficit to three at 9-6 before Chris Perez recorded the final two outs for his 32nd save of the season.
Cleveland scored four times in the first two innings off Jeff Francis (5-15). Jerad Head doubled in a run in the second for his first career RBI.
