Tigers 2, Royals 1 (10)
Ramon Santiago hit a walk-off home run in the bottom of the 10th inning to lead the Detroit Tigers past the visiting Kansas City Royals, 2-1, on Tuesday night.
Magglio Ordonez added an RBI for the Tigers, who maintained their five-game lead over Chicago in the American League Central.
Aaron Crow (3-4) struck out Austin Jackson leading off the 10th but left a 1-2 fastball up to the light-hitting Santiago, who turned on the pitch and blasted his fourth homer into the right-field stands.
Joaquin Benoit (4-3) earned the win with two innings of scoreless relief.
Doug Fister started for Detroit and took a perfect game through the first six innings before Alex Gordon doubled leading off the second and eventually scored on a sacrifice fly.
Jeff Francis did not go as deep for the Royals but was just as effective, limiting Detroit to two hits in 6 1/3 scoreless frames.
The Kansas City bullpen could not hold onto the one-run edge. Greg Holland allowed an RBI single to Ordonez in the bottom of the eighth to knot it at 1-1.
