Mets 7, Pirates 3
Dillon Gee threw seven solid innings and Josh Thole hit a go-ahead, two-run double in the seventh as the New York Mets posted a 7-3 victory over the visiting Pittsburgh Pirates on Monday.
Justin Turner drove in a run for the sixth time in as many games for New York, which improved to 8-0 all-time against the Pirates at Citi Field since it opened in 2009.
The latest win came via the combination of Gee (5-0) and the red-hot Thole, who has collected six RBIs in his last nine at bats.
Gee has turned into a good-luck charm for the Mets, who have won all seven of his starts. The righthander allowed three runs and five hits while striking out eight.
Gee received a big lift from Thole, who drove a 2-1 fastball from Daniel McCutchen (1-1) into the gap in right-center field, plating Carlos Beltran and Daniel Murphy. The third-year catcher also drove in three runs in Sunday’s 9-5 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies.
New York tacked on two more runs in the eighth and Angel Pagan punctuated the night with a spectacular catch in right-center field in the ninth.
