Mets 9, Padres 8
Rookie Lucas Duda hit a walk-off, two-run single in the ninth inning and the hobbled New York Mets rallied for a 9-8 victory over the visiting San Diego Padres on Monday.
Angel Pagan, David Wright and Jason Bay each homered for the Mets, who rallied from a four-run deficit in the final two innings despite playing without their top two hitters – Jose Reyes (hamstring) and Daniel Murphy (MCL).
The Mets denied the Padres’ a season-high fifth straight win.
Wright, who homered in the second, cut the lead to 8-7 with an RBI single to center field off Padres closer and former Met Heath Bell (2-4). It was just the third blown save of the season for Bell.
Bell’s second wild pitch of the inning put the go-ahead run on second base before Duda laced a 2-1 sinker into center field for his first walk-off hit.
The rally made a winner out of Jason Isringhausen (3-2), who threw a scoreless ninth.
