Phillies 9, Diamondbacks 2
Wilson Valdez snapped a tie with a two-run double in the seventh inning and the Philadelphia Phillies erupted for seven runs over their final two innings to cruise to a 9-2 victory over the visiting Arizona Diamondbacks on Wednesday.
John Mayberry Jr. collected three hits and Jimmy Rollins launched his 37th career leadoff homer for Philadelphia, which won for the 14th time in 17 contests and ended Arizona's seven-game winning streak.
Cliff Lee (13-8) served up a two-run homer to rookie Paul Goldschmidt in the second, but handcuffed the Diamondbacks the rest of the way. He scattered three hits and struck out seven in seven innings for his fourth straight win.
With the game tied 2-2 in the seventh, Valdez blasted a shot off the center-field wall to plate Hunter Pence and Mayberry. Brian Schneider and Shane Victorino added run-scoring hits to highlight a four-run eighth.
Joe Saunders (8-10) permitted five runs on as many hits in six innings for Arizona, which saw its lead over San Francisco shrink to 2 1/2 games in the National League West.
