Angels 5, Twins 1

Mark Trumbo hit a tiebreaking three-run homer and Ervin Santana pitched a complete game to lead the Los Angeles Angels to a 5-1 victory over the visiting Minnesota Twins on Tuesday.

Trumbo’s 20th homer snapped a 1-1 tie in the fourth and Santana won his fourth straight decision as the Angels moved to within one game of first-place Texas in the American League West.

Santana (7-8) gave up one run, eight hits and struck out seven in the follow-up start to his no-hitter against Cleveland as the Angels won for the ninth time in 13 games. It was his third complete game of the season.

Vernon Wells walked to start the fourth and Howie Kendrick doubled before Trumbo's blast over the center-field fence off Brian Duensing (8-9),

Torii Hunter added a one-out homer in the fifth and the Angels also scored in the third on Bobby Abreu’s fielder’s choice.

Minnesota scored in the fourth on Jim Thome’s infield out. The RBI was the 1,753rd of Thome’s career, moving him into 27th on the all-time list ahead of Tony Perez.

Duensing gave up five runs and eight hits in six innings.
