Cubs 8, Rockies 3

Starlin Castro and Alfonso Soriano combined for seven hits and five RBIs to support righthander Casey Coleman, and the visiting Chicago Cubs snapped the Colorado Rockies' seven-game winning streak with an 8-3 victory on Saturday night.

Soriano put the Cubs ahead with an RBI double to left-center in the second, and he added his fifth home run in the sixth, a solo shot to right-center off Rockies starter Jason Hammel.

Castro broke it open with his fourth hit of the night, a three-run home run off reliever Felipe Paulino in the Cubs' five-run seventh.

Coleman (1-0) was solid in his second outing of the season. He allowed one run on four hits in 5 2/3 innings, walked three and struck out three.

Coleman got into trouble in the fifth when the Rockies had runners at first and third with one out and the middle of the order coming up, but he got Troy Tulowitzki to foul out and induced a groundout from Seth Smith to get out of the jam.

Coleman also helped himself at the plate - he singled and scored the go-ahead run in the fifth.

Hammel (1-1) allowed three runs on seven hits over six innings. He struck out five and walked one.

Chris Iannetta hit his second home run for Colorado, a two-run shot off John Grabow in the eighth.

The Rockies, who had won 11 of 12 since an opening day loss to Arizona, still own the best record in baseball.
