Cardinals 6, Cubs 2

Yadier Molina hit a pair of home runs as St. Louis avoided a weekend sweep with a 6-2 road win over the Chicago Cubs on Sunday night.

The Cardinals, who remain 8 1/2 games behind Milwaukee in the National League Central, took a 2-0 lead in the second inning on back-to-back homers by Jon Jay and Molina, who added a two-run shot during a three-run sixth that capped the scoring.

Jake Westbrook (10-7) went seven innings for the win, allowing two runs on seven hits and a pair of walks while striking out three. Chicago starter Rodrigo Lopez (4-4) surrendered five runs on 10 hits in 5 1/3 innings, striking out four and walking one.

Albert Pujols went 4-for-5 and hit a solo homer with two out in the fifth inning for the Cardinals. Aramis Ramirez drove in each of the first two Chicago runs, one on an RBI single in the third inning and the other on a sacrifice fly in the fifth.
