Astros 2, Pirates 0

J.A. Happ combined with two relievers on a four-hitter as the Houston Astros capped a three-game sweep over the visiting Pittsburgh Pirates with a 2-0 victory Wednesday.

Happ (5-15) won for just the second time since May 14, striking out six and walking one while surrendering just three hits in seven innings.

Fernando Rodriguez worked the eighth inning and Mark Melancon handled the ninth for the Astros, who did not allow a Pirate runner to advance past first base.

Houston, which has baseball's worst record at 47-90 but now owns a pair of four-game winning streaks in the past three weeks, got all of its offense in the fourth against James McDonald (8-7). Jimmy Paredes scored on a throwing error by first baseman Garrett Jones, and Angel Sanchez later came in on a bunt single by Jordan Schafer.

McDonald scattered seven hits over six innings, striking out six and walking two while yielding just one earned run.
