Nationals 5, Giants 2
Jordan Zimmermann pitched six strong innings and won for the first time at home this season as the Washington Nationals beat San Francisco Giants 5-2 on Sunday at Nationals Park.
Zimmermann (2-4) had lost his last three decisions and was 0-3 at home, but he allowed only two runs on six hits and struck out four.
Tyler Clippard, Sean Burnett and Drew Storen each pitched a scoreless inning of relief, with Storen earning his fifth save.
Giants starter Matt Cain (2-3) was the losing pitcher, allowing three runs on seven hits and three walks.
San Francisco scored twice in the second inning on a two-run double by Nate Schierholtz.
Washington added single runs in the second, third and fourth innings, Alex Cora doubled in a run and Rick Ankiel scored on a wild pitch before the Nationals went ahead when Ivan Rodriguez scored on a fielder’s choice by Jerry Hairston Jr.
The Nationals got a pair of insurance runs in the eighth inning when Rodriguez had a two-run single off reliever Dan Runzler.
