Nationals 2, Giants 1

Jordan Zimmermann made his seventh straight quality start and the visiting Washington Nationals beat the San Francisco Giants 2-1 on Tuesday.

Zimmermann (4-6) gave up one run on five hits with one walk and three strikeouts over seven innings. His seven quality starts since May 1 are tied for the most in the majors.

Drew Storen earned his 12th save with a perfect ninth inning for the Nationals, who played 24 innings in their previous two games.

Rick Ankiel doubled to start the fourth inning and scored on Zimmermann’s fielder’s choice off Jonathan Sanchez (4-4), who allowed two runs on four hits and five walks over five innings.

The Giants tallied just one hit after the third inning and were held hitless after the fifth.

Washington catcher Wilson Ramos caught Brandon Crawford attempting to steal second in the seventh inning. He has thrown out 45 percent of all base runners – 10-for-22 – while teammate Ivan Rodriguez has caught 6-of-16.
