Jhoulys Chacin outdueled Clayton Kershaw and the Colorado Rockies shut out the visiting Los Angeles Dodgers 3-0 on Tuesday.
Troy Tulowitzki and Chris Iannetta each blasted solo home runs for Colorado, which added an insurance run when Dexter Fowler opened the sixth inning with a double and scored on Jose Lopez’s single.
Chacin (1-0) allowed five hits and two walks in seven innings with four strikeouts. Rafael Betancourt threw a perfect eighth inning before Huston Street retired the side in the ninth for his second save.
Kershaw (1-1), who pitched seven scoreless innings in an Opening Day win against San Francisco, tallied eight strikeouts in six innings against the Rockies, allowing six hits with one walk. He yielded all three runs.
The Dodgers were held without a hit after Jamey Carroll’s single led off the fifth inning. Matt Kemp, who entered the game batting 5-for-9 with 10 total bases in three games, went 0-for-4 with a strikeout.
