Athletics 4, Giants 2
Hideki Matsui hit a tiebreaking two-run single in the fifth inning and five Oakland relievers combined for 4 1/3 scoreless innings as the host Athletics posted a 4-2 victory over the San Francisco Giants on Saturday.
Oakland won its fourth straight game and improved to 5-4 since Bob Melvin took over as manager.
Andrew Bailey induced Pablo Sandoval to hit into a game-ending double play for his fourth save. Brad Ziegler (2-0) got the final out of the fifth, while Joey Devine, Brian Fuentes and Grant Balfour all pitched scoreless innings.
Matsui’s hit capped Oakland’s four-run fifth that erased a 2-0 deficit. Scott Sizemore led off the inning with a single and scored on Daric Barton’s one-out double. Cliff Pennington doubled down the third-base line with two outs to drive home Barton with the tying run.
Jonathan Sanchez (4-5) lasted only 4 2/3 innings and gave up four runs and six hits for San Francisco, which left 10 runners on base.
Oakland starter Guillermo Moscoso allowed two unearned runs and three hits in 4 2/3 innings.
