Mariners 4, Rangers 3

Casper Wells reached base four times and delivered the go-ahead single to lift the Seattle Mariners to a 4-3 victory over the host Texas Rangers on Wednesday.

Wells ripped a single past Texas third baseman Michael Young off Koji Uehara (1-2) to drive in Mike Carp with the go-ahead run in the seventh as the Mariners snapped a six-game losing streak against the Rangers.

Jason Vargas (7-10) gave up three runs and six hits in seven innings to break a personal five-game losing streak.

Jamey Wright pitched the eighth and Brandon League worked the ninth for his 27th save to break the Rangers’ three-game winning streak.

Wells went 2-for-3 with two walks as Seattle halted a three-game losing streak.

Seattle led 3-0 after Carp’s two-run homer in the third.

Texas’ Josh Hamilton hit a solo homer in the fourth and Ian Kinsler tied the score with a two-run homer in the fifth.

Derek Holland gave up three runs - two earned - and seven hits in six innings as Texas fell to 10-3 against Seattle this season.
