Rangers 3, Mariners 0
Adrian Beltre belted his seventh homer in eight games, and Matt Harrison tossed six-plus solid innings as the Texas Rangers strengthened their hold on first place in the American League West with a 3-0 triumph over the host Seattle Mariners on Sunday.
Elvis Andrus provided insurance by plating Ian Kinsler with an RBI double for Texas, which has won six of its last seven. The Rangers lead the second-place Los Angeles Angels by 4 1/2 games in the division and reduced their magic number to six.
Kinsler appeared to snap a scoreless deadlock in the third inning with a long blast down the left-field line. Although it was originally ruled a two-run homer, video replay confirmed that the ball sailed into foul territory.
One inning later, Beltre deposited an offering from Felix Hernandez (14-13) into the left-field seats for his 27th homer.
Harrison (13-9) improved to 3-0 against the Mariners this season after scattering six hits and striking out a career-high nine in 6 2/3 innings. Neftali Feliz worked the ninth for his 28th save.
Hernandez fell to 0-3 against the Rangers this season after permitting three runs on nine hits for Seattle, which has lost 12 of its last 17.
