Athletics 5, Angels 4 (10)
Mark Ellis drove in the winning run on a fielder's choice in the bottom of the 10th inning as the Oakland Athletics defeated the Los Angeles Angels 5-4 on Monday.
Los Angeles' Fernando Rodney (2-2) walked two batters and allowed them to advance on a wild pitch before Ellis grounded to second baseman Maicer Izturis, whose throw home was late as Kurt Suzuki slid across with the winning run.
The Athletics trailed 4-3 in the ninth when Coco Crisp singled with two
outs, stole second and scored on Daric Barton's single off closer Jordan
Walden.
Grant Balfour (3-1) allowed a hit and struck out the side in the 10th for Oakland, which defeated Los Angeles for only the second time in the last seven games.
Los Angeles starter Joel Pineiro yielded three runs in seven innings and Oakland's Brett Anderson, who hasn't won since April 24, allowed four runs and struck out seven in 6 2/3 innings.
The game was delayed 1:27 at the start because of rain and was played in intermittent showers.
